All staff members receive a salary, comprehensive job training, time off daily, breaks between sessions, health and accident insurance, a staff uniform, and room and board for resident camp staff.

Seasonal Staff Bonus Program

staff in tree swingGirl Scouts of Northern California also offers seasonal camp staff opportunities to increase their summer compensation through a bonus program. Bonus payments are awarded only if the staff member completes their summer agreement and ends the season in good standing with the Girl Scout Council (Applicable taxes will be deducted.):

  • All staff members who are hired, with a completed final agreement by February 1st, 2008 are eligible for a $100 early bird bonus.

  • Returning staff receive an additional $100 for each previous year they have worked at one of our camps beyond their base salary.

  • All staff members can receive an additional $25 to $50 for certain certifications beyond what is required for their position. (This does not apply to certifications paid for by GSNC.) Ask the camp director for information on eligible certifications.

Employment Dates

Below you will find the general employment dates for each of our camps. Depending on the position, season length may vary, so please contact us if you have questions. Click on the camp schedule link for a more detailed schedule of breaks and time off:

Bothin Resident Camp Schedule 2008 (B): June 14 to July 19, 2008. Minimum work days = 31. (Staff members hired to work at Bothin will also work at Deer Lake).

Camp Metro Day Camp Schedule 2008 (CM): June 16th, 2008 to August 2nd, 2008. Minimum weeks = 7.

Deer Lake Camp Schedule 2008 (DL): June 20 to August 23, 2008. Minimum work days = 32. (Staff members hired to work at Deer Lake will also work at Bothin).

Hidden Falls Resident Camp Schedule 2008 (HF): July 28th, 2008 to August 11th, 2008. Minimum work days = 14.

Skylark Ranch Resident Camp Schedule 2008 (SR)
: June 11th, 2008 to August 22nd, 2008. Minimum work day s= 54.

Sugar Pine Resident Camp Schedule 2008 (SP)
: June 16 to August 19, 2008. Minimum work days = 57.

Resident Camp Administration

Assistant Camp Director ($70-$80/day; Min. age 23 yrs.)
Oversee development and implementation of camp programs. Assist the Camp Director with Metro girlsmanagement of camp operations. Knowledge of Girl Scout program desired. Supervisory, administrative and camp experience required. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record required. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP

Program Manager ($60-$64/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Oversee management of program specialty areas, and supervise program staff. Assist with camp operations. Supervisory and camp program development experience needed. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record required. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP

Unit Manager ($60-$64/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Oversee development and delivery of unit programs. Supervise unit staff. Assist with camp operations. Supervisory and camp program development experience needed. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record required. Hiring at: SR

Operations Manager ($60-$64/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Manage business and administrative operations of camp, including financial records, purchasing, transportation, logistics. Experience in basic business procedures and good organizational skills needed. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record required. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP

Site Manager (Min. Age 25 yrs old)
This position is accountable for the proper management and maintenance of the council property, including oversight and supervision of staff, volunteers and contractors, project planning and implementation, supply and equipment purchasing, and establishment and enforcement of site safety and health procedures. Hiring at: TS Only

Health Services

Health Supervisor ($90-$100/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Oversee wellness and safety of campers and staff. Manage health center operations. California license as MD, RN, EMT or Level II First Aider certificate. Red Cross First Aid and CPR training also required. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP

Health Assistant ($70-$80/day; Min. age 21yrs.)
Assist in health operations and support overall camp program. California license as MD, RN, EMT or First Aid certificate. Red Cross First Aid and CPR training also required. Hiring at: SR only

Program

Leadership Team Director ($46-$50/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Manage a leadership team and deliver an established leadership and Counselor-In-Training program to girls in 9th-12th grade. Leadership, supervisory and outdoor skills required. Program development experience/ knowledge of Girl Scout program needed. Hiring at: B, DL, SR, SP

Unit Leader ($46-$48/day; Min. age 20 yrs.)
Manage the operations of a camp unit and oversee the health and well-being of campers. Implement a unit program within established guidelines. Supervise Unit Counselors. Group leadership, supervisory and program development skills needed. Hiring at: B, DL, SR, SP

Unit Counselor ($42-$44/day; Min. age 18 yrs.)
Assist with managing the operations of a camp unit and with implementing the unit program. Supervise the health and well-being of campers. Camp, leadership and youth work experience desired. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP


Adventure Counselor
($44-$48/day; Min. age 19 yrs.)
Serve as a Unit Counselor in the specialty adventure programs. Extensive skills and experience in one or more adventure program areas such as, snorkeling, kayaking, surfing, lifeguarding, rock climbing, wilderness/survival camping, back packing, extended road trips, etc. Hiring at: HF, SR, SP

Program Specialist ($44-$48/day; Min. age 19 yrs.)
Develop and implement a comprehensive program within a specialty area. Extensive knowledge and experience related to the program area needed. The following positions are available at the following camps:

Boating Specialist ($44-$48/day; Min. age 19 yrs.)
Responsible for development and implementation of small craft program that allows for development of skills. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required. Documented experience in use of small craft. Hiring at: DL Only

High Ropes Specialist ($50-$56/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Oversee the high ropes program including leading activities, maintenance of equipment, supervision of staff assistants. Certification or documented training on high ropes program needed. Previous experience teaching and managing a high ropes program required. First Aid and CPR training or willingness to obtain. Hiring at: DL, SR, SP

Trip Coordinator ($44-$48/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)

SwimmingWaterfront Director ($56-$62/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Responsible for the development and implementation of the waterfront program. Experienced in teaching, and working with children. Holds current certification as WSI, Lifeguard with open water module. Experience working with a boating program. Supervises waterfront staff team. Minimum age 21. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SP

Lifeguards ($46-$50/day; Min. age 18 yrs.)
Assist with waterfront operations and aquatic programs. Current Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR for the Professional Rescuer required. Previous lifeguard experience preferred. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SP, TS

Resident Camp Equestrian Program/Horseback Riding Program

Horses on trailEquestrian Director ($70-$80/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Implement a comprehensive equestrian program that includes Western and English riding and vaulting. Oversee care of horses and equipment. Supervise equestrian staff. Experienceteaching Western and/or English riding needed. Previous management or supervisory experience at a horseback riding facility required. First Aid and CPR training or willingness to obtain. Hiring at: SR Only

Assistant Equestrian Director ($58-$64/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Assist in implementing a comprehensive horseback riding program and in caring for horses and equipment. Previous management or supervisory experience at a horseback riding facility desired. Ability to teach Western and/or English riding required. First Aid & CPR training or willingness to obtain. Hiring at: SR Only

Horse specialistRiding or Vaulting Specialist ($46-$50/day) (Min. age 18 yrs.)
Assist in implementing a riding program, including teaching Western and/or English riding or vaulting. Extensive horseback riding experience and teaching skills needed. First Aid & CPR training or willingness to obtain. Hiring at: SR (vaulting only at SR), SP

Riding Director ($56-$62/day)
Certification or documented experience in horseback riding and instruction. Responsible for development and implementation of the riding program including western pleasure, barrel racing, roping, and caveletti. Implements first aid and safety standards in riding area. Oversees health (including first aid) care & feeding of horses. Supervises riding staff team. Extensive horseback riding experience, and teaching skills needed. Minimum age 21 yrs. Hiring at: SP Only

Assistant Riding Director ($50-$54/day)
Works with the Riding Director to implement riding program and care for horses. Assists in supervision of the riding staff team. Responsible for the Wrangler-In-Training program. Extensive riding and teaching skills needed. Hiring at: SP Only

Food Service

Food Service Director ($90-$100/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Oversee management of food service operations, plan and prepare meals. Supervise Kitchen Staff. Experience in quantity cooking, kitchen management and supervision required. staff in dining roomKnowledge of government food programs helpful. California State Food Handling Certificate preferred. Hiring at: HF, SR Only

Cook ($70-$80/day; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Assist in managing food service operations and meal preparation. Knowledge and experience in quantity cooking required. Supervisory skills desired. Hiring at: HF, SR Only

Food Service Assistant ($40-$68/day; Min. age 17+ yrs.)
Assist with food service operations, meal preparations and packouts. Willingness to carry out kitchen tasks and accept supervision. Hiring at: B, DL, HF, SR, SP


Residence Camp Maintenance

Ranger Assistant ($40-$58/day; Min. age 18 yrs.)
Assist Camp Ranger with maintenance of site and facilities. Willingness and ability to carry out physical tasks and accept supervision. Hiring at: SR, SP, TS

 

Day Camp Positions

Camp Metro Day Camp operates June-August, Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The daily shifts for staff members vary with each position, specific programs or session. Typically staff members work approximately 9 hours per day. Note: Some positions (*) require additional pre-camp preparation days.

Camp Metro staff members have the opportunity to earn additional compensation by working at our Mother/Daughter and Family Camp programs in August. These weekend partner programs are held at our Hidden Falls resident camp in the Santa Cruz Mountians, July 31 - August 10, 2008. Staff members will serve as Program Assistants leading various activities with the participants. Program Assistants earn $38-$42/day plus room and board. Minimum age is 18 years. Ask the Camp Director for further information.

 

Day Camp Administration

Camp Director* (TBD-DOE; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Manage Girl Scout Council day camp. Run day to day logistics of camp operations. Provide leadership with the development and implementation of enrichment programs including art, environmental education, sports, and general camp activities. Direct staff training and in-services. Oversee all aspects of supervision and support for day camp staff members. Excellent organizational skills and previous administrative experience required. Pre-Season commitment for hiring staff and planning for summer may be required. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record needed. Hiring at: CM Only

Staff having water funAssistant Camp Director* ($520-$540/week; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Work with Camp Director to manage Girl Scout Council day camp. Oversee day to day logistics of camp operations. Assist with the development and implementation of enrichment programs including art, environmental education, sports, and general camp activities. Provide support to the camp operations and unit programs. Good organizational skills and previous administrative experience required. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record needed. Program Specialist: Art ($420 - $440/week; Min. age 19 yrs.)
Develop and implement a comprehensive Art program. Should have extensive experience planning an art program and be able to support unit program within established guidelines. Hiring at: CM Only

Program Specialist: Cooking ($420 - $440/week; Min. age 19 yrs.)
Develop and implement a comprehensive cooking program. Should have extensive experience planning menus and be able to support a cooking program within established guidelines. Hiring at: CM Only

Unit Counselor I ($400 - $420/week; Min. age 18 yrs.)
Assist with managing the operations of a camper unit and implement unit program within established guidelines. Supervise the health and well-being of campers. Leadership skills and experience working with youth needed. Hiring at: CM Only

Unit Counselor II ($420 - $440/week; Min. age 21 yrs.)
Assist with managing the operations of a camper unit and implement unit program within established guidelines. Supervise the health and well-being of campers. Leadership skills and experience working with youth needed. Valid driver's license and clean DMV record required. Hiring at: CM Only
